I have been a fan of the mystery since I first read The Hardy Boys mysteries when I was a boy. I remember reading Mary Robert Reinhart's, The Bat which chilled and thrilled me. If you can find a copy I highly recommend it. Of course I, like many mystery fans, read the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. He wasn't the first private detective, but certainly the most famous, especially since the character has been probably the most depicted in film and television, and is still a favorite today. I have seen so many hours of film and television mystery I can recite the retread plots for you (but I won't). Some stories stand out in my memory more than others. I would not want to live in Cabot Cove, Maine nor be a friend or relation of Mrs. Fletcher, but I love the mysteries both on television and in the books. And Mr. Monk's unorthodox style resonates with me, again in both mediums. Nor would I wish to live In Midsomer in England. The 1975 Ellery Queen series with the late Jim Hutton in the lead role is still a particular favorite of mine of the amateur detective subgenre. All these mysteries regardless of style have one thing in common, the hero seeks to make the world right again. And the usually succeed. In this collection I have put together five stories encompassing the type of mystery and crime fiction I enjoy. Detectives, both private and police, solving crimes. Love, corruption, and greed abound in mystery fiction. I have included stories that demonstrate how these volatile aspects of the human psyche fight to make us stray onto the dark side of our nature and too often bring out the worst aspects of otherwise good people. I assure you justice will prevail, one way or another. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did writing them.
