Do you live with anxiety? Do you have you have panic attacks that keep you from doing things that “normal’ people do day to day? You may find yourself with aliments like stomach problems, muscles tension and low energy. Stress and worry can have many negative side effects on your wellbeing. There are many questions you may ask yourself in a discovery of what and why you are the way you are. I want to tell you my story and what I have learned. I remember my first panic attack very vividly. I was 17 years old and I was doing my laundry, a very typical task. My grandfather was very sick at the time and I remember visiting him and watching him struggle to breathe. The thought went through my mind over and over again to the point where it came somewhat obsessive. The thought occurred to me, ” What if I can't breathe?” ... Then wham, the roller coaster of adrenaline came and panic became evident. I felt odd like I was having an outer body experience. My heart was racing and I struggled for a deep breath in attempts to relax myself. I thought I was dying. I remember running into my mom’s room knocking on the door screaming that something was wrong with me. She was unsure of what to do and gave me an aspirin. I was able to fall asleep that night but woke up the next day with muscle tension in my chest and extreme nervousness. I went to school and in my first period class, the thoughts flooded in again, what was wrong with me? Was there something wrong with my heart? Panic came again as a result of my thoughts. I went to the nurse’s office and was sent home.
