This book was written as a guide for servers and resturants to understand what makes a great dining experience, and to help servers reap the reward of excellence. It doesn't have to be just the "finest" resturants that have the best and most friendly service. Any resturant is better served by having an excellent wait staff.
When bringing the check always ask, “Is there anything else I can get for you?” You want to give an opportunity for any additions to the meal as well as not assuming they are done. A guest may feel like you want to get rid of them instead of you seeming to offer additional service. When presenting the check, find a creative way to leave your name and write thank you or it has been my pleasure to serve you today (or this evening). This is not only clever but will leave a great impression and your name with them. It should be your goal to be the best server they have ever had! If the guest pays by credit card, thank them by name when returning their credit card; they will feel special and it may be reflected in your tip.
