This book is about my return to college to pursue a psychology degree at the age of 55. Education was very important to my father, but I, like many women, chose to start a family during those prime college-going years. I have six children. I took a class here and there through the years, of course, but now the time has come to make Dad proud. He passed last year. Still, the idea of keeping a running memoir was intriguing to me. I put a lot into my posts in the online forums. I notice that some are of the opinion that online colleges are 'easier'. You can be the judge. Each post during this journey will be included. I believe it will be inspiring to those considering returning--even when it no longer matters. For others, it may just surprise you what older adult students contribute to class! The book will be delivered in fortnight versions. This is Fortnight I. For those of you younger readers who don't know what a fortnight is, it is a two-week period.
My name is Rebecca S Jack. I am the mother of six adult children and live in Mesquite, Texas. I have been a commercial real estate manager for the past fifteen years with a short period as a flight attendant sandwiched in the middle of that career, which I really enjoyed. I love to travel and have been fortunate to have lived in various locations in the continental United States, as well as in Hawaii and in the US Territory of Puerto Rico. I have always been highly motivated to study and increase my knowledge whether on my own or in formal classes through the years. Favorite areas of interest are psychology, philosophy, religion, astrology, astronomy, politics, world-affairs and global conditions. Now that my children are grown, I have decided to get my Psychology degree and to continue on until I obtain my doctorate. I hope to find an area of psychology in which I may specialize, possibly in the area of treatment for mental illnesses such as MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) and/or schizophrenia. Ultimately I would like to become a contributing research author in one of these areas. I am already the author of one book: On the Shoulders of Giants: Advanced Techniques in Sabian Symbology.
