Dancehall has become so popularly positioned around the world that using it as a pedagogical tool is inevitable. Jamaican culture with the help of reggae, and then dancehall, has blossomed to unprecedented proportions, especially considering that Jamaica is a third world country. With all those changes, this Jamaican indigenous music has experienced many problems including cross cultural conflict, as the music became more popular internationally. In 2008, Owen Joseph, also known by his artist name Owen J., obtained his Bachelors degree in Music Education from City College of New York. He went on to gain his Masters degree in Music Education from Brooklyn College, in 2011. Owen has taught within the private and chartered school system for the last seven years and, in an effort to offer first hand help in education, he opened a tutoring agency - Roken4life Tutoring Agency Inc. Owen takes his music career very seriously. He is a pianist, saxophonist, singer, arranger and composer and is currently working on his first album to be released during summer 2012.
